Wedding Videography Workflow (Behind the Scenes in Fresno)
Our Wedding Videography Workflow (Behind the Scenes in Fresno)
Planning a wedding is stressful enough — finding a wedding videographer who understands how to seamlessly document your day shouldn’t be. At Lens and Legacy, we specialize in creating cinematic, story-driven wedding films throughout Fresno, Clovis, and the Central Valley. In this blog, we’re giving you a full behind-the-scenes look at our wedding videography workflow so you can see exactly what to expect when you hire us to capture your day.
Step 1: Pre-Wedding Prep
Before the big day even begins, we have a strategy meeting with the couple (either in-person or virtually) to go over the schedule, special moments they want captured, and any unique traditions. This allows us to plan our shots, pack the right gear, and coordinate with photographers, DJs, and planners for a smooth experience.
We also scout the venue (when possible) or study maps and photos online to plan drone shots, lighting setups, and camera placement.
Step 2: Gear & Packing
On the day of the wedding, we pack light but smart. For the solo shoot featured in our YouTube video, we used:
Leica SL3-S as our main camera
Pixus 6K as a backup B-cam
DJI Ronin 4 gimbal for smooth movement
DJI Mini 4 Pro for drone shots
Peak Design tripod (used as a monopod for mobility)
Zoom F3 recorder for clean, professional audio
Atomos Shinobi 2 monitor for external viewing
We also bring extra batteries, audio backups, and a minimal but powerful lighting setup in case of low-light environments.
Step 3: Arrival & Setup
We always arrive 30-60 minutes early to get set up, greet the venue team, and find the best angles. When shooting solo, efficiency and preparation are key.
Our first steps include:
Setting up a static B-cam to cover the ceremony
Testing audio with the DJ
Mic'ing the groom and officiant
Prepping drone shots before guests arrive
Capturing venue B-roll (wide, medium, and detail shots)
Step 4: Capturing the Ceremony
The ceremony is one of the most important moments, so we always record from at least three angles:
A wide safety angle from the back (usually 70-200mm)
A front/side gimbal shot for movement and emotion
A static B-cam for redundancy
Audio is recorded from three sources: the DJ's board, a mic on the groom, and a mic on the officiant. This ensures we don’t miss a single vow, laugh, or tearful moment.
Step 5: Post-Ceremony Coverage
Once the ceremony wraps, we move into filming:
Family & bridal party photos
Romantic couple shots (great for slow motion)
Cocktail hour moments
Venue transitions & decor details
This is also a great time for creative cinematography: lens flares, rack focuses, drone flyovers, and more.
Step 6: Speeches, First Dances & Party
We keep a wide angle on the couple throughout speeches to capture reactions. For speeches, we use a zoom lens (70-200mm) to get close-ups of each speaker. Pro tip: we ask the DJ to keep speakers near the head table to avoid chasing mics across the dance floor.
Once dancing starts, it’s all about real-time energy and fun. We film slow motion clips and crowd reactions to round out the story.
Step 7: Post-Production & Delivery
Back at the studio, we back up all footage on multiple drives, sync audio, and begin the editing process.
Our standard package includes:
A 3–6 minute highlight film
Full ceremony edit
Speeches/toasts edit
Licensed music
Delivery via online gallery & optional USB drive
Edits are crafted with color grading, storytelling, and pacing that reflects the couple's energy and vibe.
